The Weidmannstrunk is an extremely successful flavour composition for aperitifs with delicious cheese specialities, with fish and seafood dishes, but also with the king of vegetables, asparagus or artichokes.
Johannisberg is a local name for the grape variety, which is also known as Sylvaner or Gros Rhin. The variety of names tells the story of the grape's origin. It is said to have originally come from Transylvania, the mountainous region of present-day Romania, and travelled to Germany via Austria. The grape variety then arrived in Valais via the famous Johannisberg Castle.
This varietal white wine with its charming flavour is guaranteed to delight more than just hunters. But a deceased uncle of Adrian Mathier, Diego Mathier's father, was himself a passionate hunter and committed Salgesch winegrower throughout his life. Whenever he went hunting, his favourite wine, Johannisberg, could not be missed. And so this wine was named Weidmannstrunk in his honour after his death and a proud pheasant adorns the label.
The Johannisberg Weidmannstrunk impresses with its rich fullness as well as its unmistakable, varietal and charming flavour. The dry finish completes the harmony of this excellent white wine.
Traditional vinification with alcoholic fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
