Tasting findings of the 2016 - 2021 vintages

2021

It is a late and wet year that characterises this vintage with a small harvest in terms of quantity but remarkable in terms of quality. The colour of the wine is a bright ruby red. The nose is characterised by notes from the mash fermentation, which are well accompanied by the elegance of the barrique ageing. On the palate, it presents itself with plenty of character, emphasised by a fresh acidity. Still a little wild in its youth, it gradually becomes softer.

2020

The colour is still intense, deep and a beautiful, powerful garnet red. The grapes harvested on 10 September were perfectly ripe in every respect.

Aromas of black fruits, balanced by the spicy notes of the 80% ageing in new barrels, promise us a magnificent bouquet. Generous on the palate with a silky attack supported by the freshness of the powerful and dense tannins. This is a very beautiful vintage full of promise that is already presenting itself very well.

2019

A deep, intense colour underlines this very beautiful, early-ripening vintage with a beautiful structure and lots of fruit. On the nose, it is spicy and racy, supported by fine and powerful aromas of ageing that are perfectly integrated.

The tannins are still very present on the palate. They bring a lot of freshness and depth to the powerful Ambassadeur. This sunny vintage is already very pleasant to drink, but still has great ageing potential.

2018

Beautiful, early-ripening vintage that impresses with plenty of fruit and a beautiful concentration. The colour is deep dark with violet reflections. Very Burgundian in its expression, warm spices mingle with red fruits. The palate is delicious with plenty of depth and is supported by fresh acidity. The tannins are firm and silky and promise many years of enjoyment. Currently and for many years to come, very pleasant with grilled red meat.

2017

This vintage presents itself in a deep ruby red colour. Thanks to the small harvest, a powerful, very fruity wine with beautiful concentration, character and plenty of freshness on the palate could be vinified. The bouquet is fully developed with notes of spices and a slightly smoky flavour. It is a compact, juicy wine that impresses with its length and firm tannins. Generous and juicy, it is currently perfect. This vintage is wonderfully ready to drink.

2016

The robe of this wine still shines with a great deal of freshness. The rigorous destemming that was necessary for this generous vintage has paid off many times over. The bouquet develops harmoniously with notes of figs and ripe fruit. The fleshy and tasty palate, supported by a beautiful acidity, gradually rounds off. A vintage with good ageing potential, but currently an excellent accompaniment to braised meat and poultry.

Tasting note
chevron-down

2022 was a grape harvest like on a wish list. Brilliant weather, ripe, healthy grapes that are absolutely brilliant for winemaking. This very beautiful vintage with its wonderful, strong colour shows a very nice balance between the red, ripe fruit and the noble barrique ageing. The silky, dense tannins and fruitiness carry this Ambassadeur and give it great length and balance. It is already very pleasant to discover and has great ageing potential, allowing you to build up some reserves in your cellar.

Vinification
chevron-down

The Ambassadeur reaches its full maturity and intensity during 15 months in new barrique barrels. L'Ambassadeur de Domain Diego Mathier red also owes its long shelf life to this ageing process. As production is very limited, the Ambassadeur red is mainly sold by means of certificates.
