Tasting notes for the 2018–2024 vintages
2024
The harvest took place in the third week of September; the quality of the grapes is perfect. Yields are limited and the sugar-acid balance is optimal.
The result at bottling? An Ambassadeur with lovely structure and a dark colour with ruby-red highlights. A racy nose of black fruits, with lovely oak notes that will mellow with time. Plenty of freshness on the palate, rich and fine tannins that give it great ageing potential.
Give it time to mature and enjoy the vintages at their peak!
2023
Deep dark ruby colour with violet hues. The nose opens with notes of cherry and wild strawberry, harmonising perfectly with the finesse of the oak.
Beautiful precision on the palate for this vintage, full of freshness. The tannins are dense and firm, providing plenty of structure. A long, opulent finish that is still youthful. Let it rest in the cellar for a while to allow its charms to harmonise before enjoying it with your meals.
2022
It was a straightforward harvest! Glorious weather, grapes with ideal ripeness and excellent health. This beautiful wine, with its wonderfully intense colour, presents a lovely balance between perfectly ripe red fruits and the nobility of the oak from our coopers. The quality of the tannins in this vintage is remarkable. They are fine and plentiful, and are further enhanced by the ageing process!
The nose unfolds and the tannins round off, though they are still distinctly present. Already very pleasant, yet the ageing potential remains intact!
2021
It was a late and wet year, characterised by a small but remarkably high-quality harvest. The bright ruby-red colour is radiant. The nose opens with notes of maceration, well complemented by the elegance of the barrique ageing. On the palate, it displays lovely nuances, underscored by a fresh acidity that lends it great elegance.
It is ready to drink.
2020
Intense garnet colour. The grapes, harvested on 10 September, showed perfect ripeness in every respect. On the nose, its sunny side reveals itself through spicy notes and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, leading to a long, juicy and racy finish. It is a very fine vintage that is beginning to unfold its charm in a magnificent explosion of the senses.
2019
A deep and intense colour underscores this very fine, early-maturing vintage with tension and fruit.
The nose is spicy and racy. It is carried by delicate yet powerful ripe aromas that are perfectly integrated. On the palate, the tannins are supple and silky. They lend this top-class Ambassadeur plenty of volume and depth. This sunny vintage is at the peak of its development and can retain its form for a long time to come.
2018
Red berries and fresh ash on the nose. The colour is still young, barely marked by ageing. Notes of sour cherry and lovely tension on the palate in this rather Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. The tannins are firm and silky with a slightly dry note on the finish. Straightforward and complex – a good accompaniment to grilled red meat.
The Ambassadeur reaches its full maturity and intensity during 15 months in new barrique barrels. L'Ambassadeur de Domain Diego Mathier red also owes its long shelf life to this ageing process. As production is very limited, the Ambassadeur red is mainly sold by means of certificates.
