Viognier goes perfectly with an aperitif, as an accompaniment to various starters or with a fine Asian dish.

Wine history
chevron-down

Viognier is originally a French grape that quickly gained international recognition. However, it almost completely disappeared due to the European phylloxera crisis at the end of the 19th century. At Mathier, however, the grape variety has been rediscovered for some time now and this full-bodied wine is happy to take centre stage.

The colour of its golden yellow capsule is a reminiscence of the fully ripe grapes, which also present themselves in a deep, auspicious golden yellow colour at harvest. The original Salgesch pyramids are depicted on the label, with the Rhone meandering through the Valais in the background, thus linking Viognier in Valais with its country of origin.

Tasting note
chevron-down

On the nose, the Viognier from the House of Mathier is aromatic with wonderful notes of peach and apricot as well as citrus fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with a finely rounded acidity. The finish is beautifully long-lasting and warm-hearted.
